We accept all major credit and debit cards in addition to PayPal on the website. During the final step of checking out you will be redirected to SagePay via a secure connection to make payment. You will see a padlock in the address bar of your browser confirming the connection is secure.
Please note that for your personal security the SagePay payment page has an inactivity time limit of 15 minutes. We therefore advise you have your payment details (such as your credit or debit card) to hand before completing checkout. When you start the checkout process you will be asked for a billing address and a delivery address; the billing address should match the address the credit or debit card is registered to. A checkbox allows you to use the billing address as the delivery address without having to enter these details separately.
If you are using a credit or debit card you may be prompted to enter additional security information under the Verified by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode verification schemes.
Important information about debit card payments
Debit card payments differ from credit card payments as they transfer funds directly from your bank account. During the transaction your card issuer will place a pre-authorisation hold on the requested funds whilst authorisation for the transaction completes. Provided authorisation completes successfully your card issuer releases the held funds from your account to the payment processor, at which point the transaction is completed.
However, if for any reason the authorisation fails the pre-authorisation hold will remain on the funds in your account for a period of typically two to four working days - this is an automatic precautionary measure taken by your card issuer against the authorisation becoming successful at a later time. Your statement may appear to show the funds as being debited but they are, in fact, still in your account. Once your card issuer's time limit for receiving authorisation passes the hold is removed from the funds and they will automatically appear back on your statement and become available again. It is important to note that no funds have actually been taken from your account; your card issuer has placed a pre-authorisation hold on the funds and this means the funds will not show on your statement nor will they be available to you until the hold is released by your card issuer.
For this reason we ask you to please check your billing information thoroughly before completing the checkout process and we advise you have your debit card to hand. The SagePay checkout process has an inactivity time limit of 15 minutes to help protect your privacy and personal details. If verification of your billing details fails or if the SagePay session times out you may find your card issuer has already placed a hold on the funds in your account. Neither ourselves nor SagePay can debit the funds back to your account as they never actually left your account. If you have attempted checking out with a debit card and have not been redirected to the order success notification on the 4bathrooms website we advise you not to re-attempt the transaction as your card issuer may attempt to place another hold on further funds in your account. If the transaction does not complete successfully on the first attempt then please call us on 0844 8 222 444 with your order details so we may assist you.
Please note the above applies to using your debit card to make a purchase on any website, not just 4bathrooms. You can help avoid potential problems by verifying you enter the name and billing address in the billing contact fields EXACTLY as they appear on statements for the account the debit card is registered to. Cards displaying the Visa Debit or Visa Electron logo may require additional security information if your card issuer utilises the 'Verified by Visa' service (see Verified by Visa). Similarly, debit cards displaying the MasterCard or Maestro logo may require additional security information if your card issuer utilises the 'MasterCard SecureCode' service (see MasterCard SecureCode). Please ensure you have all the necessary details ready before clicking the 'Place Order' button at the end of the checkout process.
Remember - If you have attempted checking out with a debit card and have not been redirected to the order success notification on the 4bathrooms' website there is a very strong chance your card issuer has placed a hold on the funds in your account. Any additional attempts to complete the purchase will likely result in further holds being placed on funds in your account. This can affect your ability to withdraw funds from the account and can cause you to become overdrawn and incur overdraft fees (if your account allows this) until the pre-authorisation hold(s) have been released by your card issuer. Neither 4bathrooms nor SagePay can do anything to release the hold(s) on the funds and many banks will not release any holds even if we provide them with proof the payment failed. In the majority of cases the only resolution is to wait two to four working days for any active holds to automatically fall-off the account.
We strongly advise you open a free PayPal account and register your debit card with the account you create. You will then be able to checkout by selecting the PayPal option on the SagePay checkout screen, allowing you to transfer funds into your PayPal account using your debit card. This is generally easier than checking out solely with your debit card as PayPal will have already verified your billing details during the registration of your debit card.
